At a celebration event on Friday, 4th December in the Regional Skills and Training Centre, Coes Road, Dundalk are 17 Learners who recently completed a Professional PSV Driving course. The Bus Driving Course was delivered by LMETB and their contracted training partner Rice School of Motoring. The course was designed to provide business with personnel who are skilled as Professional Bus Drivers. Tuition was provided by Rice School of Motoring and some of the work experience was provided by Matthews Coach Hire Ltd.
Learners on the course acquired skills in driving a Large Public Service Vehicle (LPSV), Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), Digital Tachygraphy, Customer Care, First Aid, Fire Safety, Manual Handling and Work Experience.
Currently there is a significant amount of vacancies for professional drivers.
Speaking at the event Noel Matthews said that 'We are delighted to have been able to provide work experience and other inputs into the programme. There is a shortage of qualified and competent drivers and the course provided by LMETB goes someway in addressing the needs of the industry'.
Peter Egan, Area Manager of the Regional Skills and Training Centre, said 'In LMETB we are delighted to provide training that addresses the needs of both local and national labour market skill-needs. Our mission is to progress our learners into employment by providing training that is relevant to the labour market. We would like to thank the Learners for sticking with a challenging programme. There are many opportunities for learners to avail of occupational training programmes throughout Louth and Meath'.
